FAQ

Have questions about how to use parchment paper? Below are the answers to some of the commonly asked questions about baking parchment:

Which side of the parchment paper goes up?  It does not matter which side of the paper is up and which is against the pan, both sides of the paper are silicone coated.

Is parchment paper waterproof?  It is waterproof to a point, but it is still paper and submerged in water for a long enough time will still be affected by the moisture.

Can parchment paper be microwaved?  Yes, you can microwave parchment paper.

Does parchment paper burn?  Our Zenlogy parchment paper is very strong and can be heated up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, but at the end of the day it is paper and can potentially be burned if subjected to heats that are too high.

Is parchment paper the same as wax paper?  Parchment paper and wax paper are very different. Parchment can be used in the oven due to its silicone coating, whereas wax paper is coated with wax that will melt and burn much more easily. Wax is not ideal for baking.

Is parchment paper the same as butcher paper?  Parchment paper can be used to wrapping and storing goods, just as butcher paper is, but unlike butcher paper, parchment can be used in the oven.

What is the difference between parchment paper and aluminum foil?Parchment paper is healthier than aluminum foil, as aluminum may leech into the foods that you cook it with under high heats.

Can parchment paper go in a toaster oven?  Yes. A toaster oven is just a mini version of your standard oven and parchment paper can be used in it, though we do not recommend using Zenlogy parchment paper in heats over 450 degreen Fahrenheit.

Will parchment paper catch fire?  Zenlogy parchment paper is very strong and is intended to be baked or cooked in high heats, but it is paper and does have the potential to burn if it is too hot.

Why is parchment paper non-stick?  Zenlogy parchment paper has a silicone coating that is non-toxic and safe for high heat. Many other parchment papers are coated with Quilon, a product that contains a chemical called Chromium and releases small traces of metals into the foods it comes into contact with.

Can parchment paper be reused?  We do not recommend reusing our parchment paper, but many customers have noted using Zenlogy parchment 2 or 3 times with positive results.

Is parchment paper compostable?  Because Zenlogy parchment paper is coated with silicone and not wax, it will break down much more quickly and allows it to be composted.

Can parchment paper be used in a broiler?  Do not use your parchment paper in a broiler. While it is made to withstand high heats, it will ignite in a broiler and catch fire. It is not advised to use it in a broiler.

Is it Eco-Friendly?

Natural Fibers: Zenlogy parchment paper is made from wood pulp that hasn’t been treated with chlorine or other harsh chemicals, making it a more environmentally friendly option.

Biodegradability: The Zenlogy parchment paper is made from natural materials, so it will break down over time when composted or disposed of in an appropriate environment.

Silicone Coating: Zenlogy parchment paper is coated with food-grade silicone coating (a synthetic polymer made from the basic elements: silicon, oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen). This type of silicone is inert and safe for the environment. It doesn't prevent the parchment paper from breaking down, though it may slightly slow the process.

Composting: Zenlogy parchment paper can often be composted at home or in commercial composting facilities. If composting at home it can take longer to break down that paper. In commercial facilities, higher temperatures are used that break down the silicone coating more effectively.

Eco-Friendly Benefits:
No Chlorine: Zenlogy parchment paper doesn’t include any chlorine bleaching, which reduces the production of harmful chemicals during manufacturing.

Recyclability: Parchment paper coated with food-grade silicone is not recyclable, but it is biodegradability making it a more sustainable choice compared over alternatives like wax paper or plastic wraps.
